Did you edit or replace your models.dat file? Do the models of the vanilla characters work or are they 2D sprites too? Which models are you trying to use? What character are you trying to use?

You will probably need to forgo using Kartmaker and instead manually compile and set up the character sprites in SLADE like with any vanilla SRB2 character mod.
While this would technically be possible, it would probably involve ripping out much of Maimy's code and redoing it from scratch to account for incompatibilities between versions. It would not be simple and you would need a deep understanding of what you were doing.
