Kaldrum's 3D Models

Kaldrum's 3D Models v4.0 - it's-a-him!

How do I make this work for the Max Control Pack? I've done everything in the text document, but the characters are still 2D. Vanilla characters are 3D

do you have the correct lines in your models.dat

Yes, I copy/pasted them. They go directly under the vanilla lines, right?
they don't
the vanilla lines override the modded ones
so remove the vanilla lines that are causing issues so that the modded ones can function

I have tried everything everyone has said. I have even downloaded the game again, deleted every model file except the ones I want, and THEY. STILL. DON'T. WORK! I'm beginning to wonder if this is an elaborate joke... Do these models even work? What on EARTH am I doing wrong???

So, I deleted the models folder that came with the game, replaced it with Kaldrum's instead of copy/pasting the contents and now it *SEEMS* to be working. Just, what in the heck?? That shouldn't make any difference at all, but it did

well, the default models override every model that tries to replace it, until the default model is removed
i think srb2 priorities default/jeck jims models before other models (like kaldrum's models)
probably because jeck jims is the "official" srb2 model pack

sorry you were having so much trouble with this. maybe this will make more sense of it

models.dat lines work by pointing to a file location, starting from the "models" folder that comes with the game. For example, the line "SONIC KLDR/SONIC.md3 2.7 0.0" replaces the "SONIC" sprite, then points to the "KLDR" folder within the "models" folder, then points to the file "SONIC.md3" within the KLDR folder. (The last number is the size of the model, it will be the same on all of my models). The way my folders in this pack are set up require you to take the folders with everything in it, the KLDR and KDBONUS ones, to be copied into the models folder, which would make them parallel to the jeck jims ones (PLAY, BOSS, ENMY, etc.). If these two folders are not in this location, the lines I provide in the instructions will not work at all.

One other thing, let's say that you put the KLDR folder inside another one within the models folder and then adjust the lines this comes with to compensate, ie. adding FOLDERNAME/ before every line. if you do this, anything past the KLDR folder (such as the MCPACK stuff) will not work because models.dat lines can't go into more than two folders for some reason. I don't know your setup but that could be one reason the mcpack stuff wasn't working but the normal models were.

when adding lines to the models.dat, you want to be checking the first part of every line which will be a 4 letter sprite name for most objects like METL, PEEL, FANG of a longer one for playable characters like SONIC, METALSONIC, PLAYERFANG. If you want to add lines from a different pack to an existing models.dat, you should make sure you have no repeats of this part of the line, otherwise the model you want will most likely not load. to fix this, just delete the duplicate line. the majority of my models will run into this, as they often replace models already covered by jeck jims. if a line is typed incorrectly, it will prevent anything below it from loading, but the stuff above that is correct will still load. just make sure to double check for typos, if you have a line that doesn't point to a real file, that counts as incorrect and your models below it will not load, and any extra text other than blank new lines will also cause problems.

I think that's all I can think of about the models.dat that might be an issue, if this wasn't covered by this wall of text please let me know.

why does my peelout have 3 spikes? or whatever these red things are called

i have been trying to get the tyson hesse model to work lately. I've put the HESSESONIC KDBONUS/HESSESONIC.md3 2.7 0.0 inside of the models.dat, and i have also put KDBONUS inside of the models folder. It still hasn't work, am I possibly doing something wrong?

that all seems correct, maybe just check if any lines above that one are broken, if they are it wont load properly. your other models work, right?

Yes, the other models work fine.
everything you've described so far seems correct, and if other models in the kdbonus folder work, I'm not entirely sure whats going on. Just to be 100% sure, you're using these lines with the purpose of getting the tyson hesse sonic mod to have a model, right? If not, then what you're doing wouldn't work, though I doubt thats whats going on. If you could send screenshots of your models.dat or models folder that could probably help me troubleshoot a bit, but for now idrk whats up.

I haven't really tried the other models in the KDBONUS folder.. just only the KLDR folder. My main focus so far has only been getting the Tyson Hesse model to begin working, even though I didn't try the KDBONUS folder ones. I did do the KLDR ones and they worked perfectly fine. I'm still pretty new when it comes to doing 3D models.

everything still looks correct here, so I guess I'll ask a few more things. sorry that these questions are so trivial but I really cannot figure out what's going on here. first, what actually happens when you load the hesse sonic addon (this one just to be sure)? do the sprites load or is sonic just not there?
second, when you look in the KDBONUS folder, are the files HESSESONIC.md3, HESSESONIC.png and HESSESONIC_blend.png all there (especially the first two). they should be visible as soon as you open the folder. idk why they wouldn't be there considering everything is set up properly afaik but still, just to be sure.
third, maybe just check your models.dat for any extra characters around lines like spaces following the lines? I really doubt this would effect anything but I guess it's worth checking anyway
idk if you've tried reinstalling the pack or deleting and readding the lines but that also might be worth trying if you haven't already
really sorry about this, I wish I could figure out what's going on, I hope any of this is even remotely useful, sorry if it isnt

The sprites load in, and the hesse sonic files are visible inside of the KDBONUS folder. I've reinstalled the pack several of times as well and I just readded the lines into the model.dat folder. The version I have for the Tyson Hesse addon is the v.5.1 one, is there a specific one I need?

I think you put it in your models.dat wrong if this isn't the case Idk what is

once again, that looks right, it's what made it based around
would you be willing to try out the super sonic model? it's in the same file location as hesse sonic, so if you can get that to work, or if it doesn't maybe it'll be helpful
it's this mod here
and the line is
SUPERSONIC KDBONUS/SUPERSONIC.md3 2.7 0.0
